Your feedback has shaped the Logan West Upgrade project
We’re please to share the Logan West Upgrade reference design, shaped by the voices, experiences and insights of the Logan West community.
In late 2024, we asked the community for their feedback on our draft design to understand the needs and priorities of the Logan West community. We carefully reviewed your feedback to and developed a reference design that not only meets essential transport needs but also leaves a lasting positive legacy for the community.
Our reference is indicative only and subject to approvals and may change further once the contract has been awarded.
What we heard
Throughout consultation, you told us what was important to you. Key themes included:
- motorway congestion is a major issue
- motorists are seeking better local connectivity
- improvements to motorway on and off ramps are needed
- over-sized vehicles and emergency services need improved accessibility
- addressing noise and environmental impacts are important.
Many of you shared how important it is that any upgrades support safer, quicker, and more reliable travel. The Logan West Upgrade project focuses on targeted improvements along the western section of the Logan Motorway, where congestion is most significant.
Importantly, proposed upgrades in the reference design can be delivered without any private property acquisition, ensuring the community gains the benefits of improved safety and reduced travel times without the disruption that property acquisition can bring. There will be some land acquisition from Local and State Government to deliver the project.
We’re proposing the following upgrades as part of the Logan West Upgrade reference design.

Upgrading on and off ramps
Upgrades will be made to some on and off ramps to support smoother traffic flow and reduce congestion on surrounding roads.

Introducing ramp metering
Installation of ramp meters at all on ramps along the project corridor to support safer merging during peak periods

Widening motorway shoulders
Inclusion of wider motorway shoulders to provide access to emergency services and assist with traffic movement during emergencies.

Improved access for emergency and heavy vehicles
Additional turnaround points and improvements made to existing crossovers ensuring access for emergency services and freight vehicles.

Safer connecting roads for heavy vehicles
Several roundabout islands that connect to the motorway will be reduced in size or flattened to enable safer movement of oversized vehicles.

Smart technology
Planned use of smart motorway technology to improve traffic flow and keep you informed.

Environmental protection
Inclusion of measures to protect healthy ecosystems, such as grassed drainage channels. Retention of current fauna crossings where possible and installation of additional fauna exclusion fencing where needed.

Noise management
Noise monitoring and modelling will guide the need for any additional mitigation measures to ensure appropriate noise levels are maintained.
Access changes to Skepper Street
As part of the reference design, we’re proposing to remove access to Skepper Street from the Logan Motorway eastbound on ramp. This access change is designed to:
- improve road safety and traffic flow
- eliminate safety risks for motorists entering and existing Skepper Street and entering the motorway
- improve capacity at the intersection of Boundary Road on and off ramps to the Logan Motorway
- enable ramp capacity for Motorway ramp metering.
Access to Skepper Street will be maintained via Michael Street and Stephen Street.
